Our bishopric read the letter in Relief Society on Sunday. No surprises there.
Then our bishop said he wanted to share something he'd felt impressed to say, and you could sort of feel everyone brace themselves. Here's what he said:
"Lehi had a dream of the Tree of Life. There was also a great and spacious building. What divided them? An awful gulf. On one side, at the tree, there were people beckoning. In the building, there were people pointing the finger of scorn.
"I looked all over the scriptures, and I couldn't find one instance where Jesus used scorn. He always beckoned.
"I don't care which side of this issue you're on. What I care about is that you examine yourself and that you notice how you're treating people. Are you beckoning or are you using the finger of scorn?"
And then he sat down. And I, for once, will follow suit.
Exploring the spiritual side of things. Brevity is not my forte.
